where one single word or sentence can induce the whole family to snicker or laugh the house down. where outsiders would be left baffled because they don't know the story behind it. even if you explain the joke to them, they wouldn't quite grasp why it is so funny in the 1st place.
and you know that you had left your family so long when you couldn't share these jokes. and he was complaining that i always go back to klang.sigh~*
You know how annoying your older and married relatives could be at family gatherings?
it seems that your bachelor status is something that really worries them. i have my share of "how long are you going to study?you know a man don't like his wife to be higher educated than him don't you?" and "you should have married by now, just look at X, at your age she already has 2 kids" to "do you have boyfriend? no? my friend has a son."
arghh....!!! it was so annoying. although you're cursing and fuming inside, you put on a smile and endure them because you know that they worry because they care about you. because the blissfully married thought that you're missing out on a good thing by remaining single. the aunties and uncles feel obliged to find you a suitor because they treat you like their own children (who were already married by the way).
You know how your parents still treat you like a kid?
although now, it's you who drove your dad around to places he wants to go. although now, it's you who paid for the household bills. although now, their children held private meetings among siblings to make sure their parents were taken care of.
they will always think of you as their little girl/boy who they need to chaperone, to guide, to give pocket money to, and to worry endlessly. and in your heart, you know that it is something that you could never change. how overwhelming and overbearing your parents are, you know that they love you and they want to keep you close.
well, for better or for worse you will love them because they are yours.
